GUAN-TYPE GLAZED EAR CUPS (ERBEI)

Qing Dynasty, Qianlong 6-character seal mark and of the period (1736-1795)

Diameter: 11.7cm

Each shallow cup is of elliptical form flanked by half-circle handles attached to the slightly sloping walls. A six-character seal mark of the Qianlong emperor is painted in underglaze blue on the base of the ear cups.

In terms of form, the cups hark back to Han Dynasty lacquer, while the glaze imitates Song Dynasty crackled Guan Wares.
