Scholar’s Implements

A PARCEL-GILT BRONZE BRUSHREST

MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

LENGTH: 12.6CM

The well-patinated golden brown-coloured boxwood brushpot stands on three short legs and is accented by a narrow everted rim along the mouth and footrim. The sides are carved in low relief with a scene of an elderly scholar supported by two younger scholars by a lush pine tree. The brushpot is carved out of a single piece of boxwood.
