Incense Implements

A PARCEL-GILT BRONZE CENSER

QING DYNASTY,YONGZHENG PERIOD (1723-1735)

LENGTH (ACROSS HANDLES): 10.5CM

The censer is of rounded rectangular form with the rims, feet and handles in the form of a twisted stem issuing smaller leafy bamboo sprigs, framing on either side a stylised ‘shou’ character. A six-character mark 大明宣德年製 ‘Da Ming Xuande Nianzhi’ mark is cast in relief on the base.

The cover has an openwork decoration depicting the ‘Three Friends of Winter’ motif – pine, prunus and bamboo. The knop is in the form of a raised gnarled branch.
