MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The ivory wristrest is carved in shallow relief in the form of a small bamboo section with a smaller sprig and its attendant leaves jutting from the side. The surface is of a warm even tone with natural age cracks.
A jade example of a wristrest dated to the Ming dynasty decorated with a similar motif is published in the National Palace Museum’s book Treasures from the Scholar’s Studio 國立故宮博物院文房聚英, Kyoto, 1992, p. 167, Catalogue No. 148
