17TH CENTURY
HEIGHT: 14.6CM
The brushpot is carved from one irregular hollowed section of ivory with a slightly tapered waist and incised with various figures within a mountainous landscape. One scene depicts a mother and child walking from their pavilion to birdwatch, another shows a fisherman on a raft, while the last scene depicts a young scholar writing calligraphy under a large pine tree. The ivory is patinated to a warm reddish tone with natural age cracks.
