A JADE SCHOLAR’S ROCK

TANG TO SONG DYNASTY, 7TH TO 12TH CENTURY

LENGTH: 17.8CM

The thick jade boulder is fashioned in the form of a mythical mountain landscape with soft peaks and rolling valleys accented with circular-shaped perforations imitating the cavities of a scholar’s stone. The jade is overall a pale celadon colour with deep chocolate brown veining and inclusions and polished to an unctuous surface.
