QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
HEIGHT OF EACH WALNUT: 4.3CM
The walnuts are naturally formed and similar in size with a gnarled, wrinkly textured surface and circumferential ribbing. They are heavily worn and patinated to a deep reddish-brown colour, resembling lacquer.
Pairs of walnuts were used as hand exercisers and contemplative aids, often shown to peers as status symbols.
