A ROOTWOOD SCULPTURE

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

HEIGHT (INCLUDING STAND): 44CM

The vertical sculpture is naturally formed from a single tree root section with a slender upright central stem flanked by fragmented terminals. The rootwood is elegantly twisted resembling a thick ribbon with a shallow well in the central section and rests on a flat base. The sculpture is well patinated to a glossy reddish brown tone.
