LIAO/JIN DYNASTY (907-1234)

The box is circular in shape with a domed cover and resting on a shallow ring foot. The cover is carved in openwork with a deer, its head turned back, flanked by lingzhis and a lotus leaf against foliage, all within a plain border. The agate material is translucent grey and honey with opaque white striations and wellpolished throughout.
