QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD (1735-1796)
The brushpot is of cylindrical section and rests on a flat base. It is decorated around the exterior with a rocky landscape scene of a scholar and attendant crossing a river on a bridge to join two other scholars conversing in the courtyard of a two-storied mansion built at the base of a mountain. The material is bright blue in colour with metallic yellow pyrite and traces of white calcite inclusions.
