The tianhuang soapstone is carved in the form of the seated luohan Vajraputra 伏虎羅漢 with his left leg raised and leaning against a recumbent lion whilst clutching on to a ruyi sceptre on the crook of his right arm. He is dressed in loose robes with his hem embellished with tiny pearl and turquoise beads above carved scrolling clouds on wave ground design. The ‘Yuxuan 玉琁’ mark is vertically incised on the reverse side between the shoulders. The tianhuang stone is a bright caramel colour.
