A WHITE JADE BIRD

Song Dynasty or earlier (960-1279)

Height: 7cm

The bird is carved with a long sweeping tail curved inwards, with the wings and eyes accented with deep grooves. The back of the neck is drilled to allow for suspension. The jade colour is an overall greyish white with a small patch of russet skin on the head of the bird.
