17TH CENTURY
DIAMETER: 7CM
The bamboo root waterpot is naturalistically carved as a section of a pine tree with branches curling around the sides issuing clusters of needles. The trunk of the knotted tree is carved in low relief as it wraps along the back of the vessel.
SIMILAR EXAMPLE
A similar pebble-shaped bamboo waterpot, in the collection of the Jiading Museum, is published in Jiading Bamboo Carving, Shanghai, 2007, p. 19.
