A CARVED BLACK ‘GURI’ LACQUER BRUSH

MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY

Length of Brush (Without Cap): 21cm
Length of Cap: 6.5cm

The elegantly waisted brush is deeply carved through a thick layer of black lacquer accented with two cinnabar red lacquer layers beneath, with a dense, scrolling heart-shaped ‘guri’ pattern. The brush is complete with its matching pointed cover. (Includes Japanese box)
