17TH CENTURY
HEIGHT: 7.5CM
The miniature vase, loosely harking back to a Han dynasty prototype, is of square section, with tapered sides surmounted by an everted rim. The shoulders of the vessel are carved in low relief with cicada registers below decorative loop handles flanking the neck, set with an eagle with its wings and long feathers hugging the sides. The eagle is perched atop a crouching bear, rising from the base.
