QING DYNASTY, 17-18TH CENTURY
HEIGHT: 12.5CM
Of cylindrical form and tapered waist, the brushpot rests on three shallow bracket feet. It is richly patinated and carved in relief, depicting a continuous river scene of three scholars at leisure enjoying a landscape. Two sit on rocks under trees while one stands holding a fly whisk. An attendant carries two heavy bundles tied to a pole across the bridge while two boats are being paddled toward an empty pavilion in front of a mountainous backdrop.
