A YELLOW JADE BUFFALO

SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)

LENGTH: 7CM

The jade is carved in the form of a reclining buffalo with its legs tucked beneath the body and its head turned slightly toward the left, while clutching a small spray of millet in its mouth. The jade is bright yellow in colour with thick russet inclusions running from the head down along the spine of the buffalo.
