AN IVORY INKREST

MING DYNASTY (1368-1744)

Carved from a single piece of ivory, the inkrest is formed into a flattened rectangular surface elevated by scroll-shaped feet tucked underneath the thick plank. The ivory is patinated to a warm tone covered by a fine network of age cracks.
