A GREEN JADE SCROLLWEIGHT

SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)
LENGTH: 14.8CM

The scrollweight is of gently sloping elongated form fashioned from a sliced section of a large jade boulder. The foot is flat and plain save for a long curved tool mark. The jade is dark translucent green in colour with black veining and striations throughout and polished to a smooth unctuous finish.
