The brush is carved from a thin bamboo reed section and decorated in shallow relief with dense pine branches above a watery landscape and raft, depicting a scene from the Ode to the Red Cliff 赤壁賦 (Chibi Fu ), the motif extending to the cover. The brush and cover are well patinated to a honey brown tone.
