MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
LENGTH: 5.8CM
The yellow pebble fashioned in the form of a recumbent horse with
one foreleg raised and its long tail curled alongside its rear
haunches. Its head turned backwards, detailed with almond-shaped
eyes and a combed mane. The stone is of an attractive yellow tone
with traces of russet.
A recumbent jade horse of similar form is illustrated in Jessica
Rawson, Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing , London, 2002,
pp. 371-373, pl. 26:15.
