A YELLOW JADE FIGURE OF A HORSE

MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

LENGTH: 5.8CM

The yellow pebble fashioned in the form of a recumbent horse with one foreleg raised and its long tail curled alongside its rear haunches. Its head turned backwards, detailed with almond-shaped eyes and a combed mane. The stone is of an attractive yellow tone with traces of russet.

A recumbent jade horse of similar form is illustrated in Jessica Rawson, Chinese Jade from the Neolithic to the Qing , London, 2002, pp. 371-373, pl. 26:15.
