QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The box and cover are of square section with indented corners. The domed cover depicts a lotus pond scene in mother-of pearl and semi-precious stone inlays. Inlaid silver wire highlights the ripples of the water and double-coil silver inlays represent the stems of lotus flowers. The box remains largely undecorated and is raised on a shallow footring.
A zitan box of similar shape and inlaid with a composition of narcissus flowers is published in The Palace Museum Collection of Elite Carvings, Beijing, 2002, p. 143, Catalogue No. 103
