QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The stand is carved in the shape of a naturalistic rootwood, with a network of seven legs entwined beneath the irregular platform. The stand is well patinated to a deep caramel colour.
Root furniture was favoured by the literati as a direct extension of nature.
A larger display stand is illustrated in Arts of the Scholar’s Studio, Hong Kong, 1986, pp. 76-77, Catalogue No. 37
