AN ARCHAISTIC BAMBOO ‘PHOENIX’ WATERPOT

QING DYNASTY, QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)

LENGTH: 10.8CM

The waterpot is carved from a single piece of bamboo in the shape of a phoenix, with its feet tucked under the body. The finely incised wings flank the open well on the top.

The form and the style of carving is reminiscent of imperial jades of the same period.
