A BRONZE BRUSHREST

Ming Dynasty, Wanli Period (1572-1620)

Length: 11.5cm

The brushrest is cast in a form of five peaks surmounting a brick wall. The centre is decorated in openwork with a chilong dragon with its head turned backwards. The reverse depicts four small figures at the entrance of a Daoist temple. The bronze patina is of a pleasing dark brown tone.
