The heavily cast censer is squat in form with a tapered neck and wide bordered lip and rests on three short waisted feet. The base has a four-character inscription 山形卓起 “Its Mountainous Form Rises Eminently” in relief inset within a square border. The surface is enhanced with a thin layer of red cinnabar lacquer covering the entire exterior of the censer.
