The natural sculpture is formed by a network of rootwood with multiple perforations creating a matrix of jagged twists and intertwined whorls and rests on a squat hongmu Suzhou-type stand. The rootwood is patinated to a deep reddish russet colour.
A four-character inscription on the base reads Niliu zhai zang 泥留齋藏 “Niliu Studio Collection”
