A Vertical Rootwood Sculpture

Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)

Height: 88cm

The rootwood is oriented vertically and naturally formed on one side with dense irregular knots and nodes with deep crevices and ridges. The rootwood twists down from a dramatic overhang and extends to smaller root sections. The sculpture rests on a metal base. The reverse shows a smooth surface. The rootwood is patinated to a dark chocolate colour.
