A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE FIGURE OF A HORSE

SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)

LENGTH: 5.5CM

The recumbent beast is well modelled with its forelegs raised and long tail curled alongside its rear haunches. Its russet-brown head is turned to one side with a slight lean and finely detailed with almond-shaped eyes, flaring nostrils, short pointed ears and a combed mane. The translucent white stone is suffused with attractive russet-brown inclusions.
