Incense Implements

A CINNABAR LACQUER INCENSE BOX AND COVER

MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY, JIAJING MARK AND PERIOD (1522-1566), DATED TO 1522

DIAMETER: 9CM

Of circular section, the domed cover and base are finely carved with a lychee branch bearing fruit and foliage all against a diaper ground. The base is similarly decorated. The black lacquer interior is inscribed with a ‘Da Ming Jiajing Ren Wu Nian Zhi’ 大明嘉靖壬午年製 mark (dated to 1522) in vermillion.
