The iron censer is cast in the shape of an archaic fangding flanked by two loop handles and covered with a matching lid and resting on four high tapered legs. The exterior of the censer is decorated on either side with a front-facing taotie mask in shallow relief and embellished with silver and gold inlay, all above a leiwen ground within decorative flanges.
The censer is patinated to a chocolate brown colour.
