A GREY ‘YING’ SCHOLAR’S ROCK

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The grey limestone rock is comprised of undulating cresting peaks and jagged outcrops with layers of elliptical slits, particularly evident with a diagonal movement to the reverse of the rock. The lustrous rock has a characteristic wrinkled surface and is of a dark grey tone with lighter striations. The rock rests on an elevated Suzhou-type hongmu stand.
