A LARGE VERTICAL ‘LINGBI’ SCHOLAR’S ROCK

The resonant grey limestone is vertically orientated with a dynamic composition, with a dramatic overhanging craggy outcrop framing a central, inverted C-shaped cavity. Its lustrous dark surface is characterised by prominent, layering vertical slits of jagged protrusions interrupted by occasional perforations. The limestone is of a dark grey tone with lighter flecks and white striations particularly on the reverse, all resting on a carved Suzhou-style hongmu stand.
