A LARGE HORIZONTAL ‘LINGBI’ SCHOLAR’S ROCK

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

LENGTH: 62CM

Horizontally orientated, the substantial resonant limestone is formed from protruding rocky faces and jagged peaks with a slight lean to the left. The wrinkled surface of the dark grey rock is with characteristic pitting, accentuated by white and occasional red veining particularly on the reverse. The rock is supported on a carved double-tiered Suzhou-style hongmu stand.
